Acid-Etched

Acid-Etched Glass provides a refined and versatile solution for achieving a smooth, frosted appearance that enhances privacy while still allowing natural light to filter through. This decorative glass is produced through a controlled process in which hydrofluoric acid is applied to the surface, eroding a thin layer to create a fine, uniform texture. The result is a translucent finish with a satin-like feel that obscures visibility without diminishing brightness.

The manufacturing process begins by applying a protective film or resistant coating to areas intended to remain clear. The exposed sections are treated with hydrofluoric acid, either by immersion or spraying, which etches the surface. The level of opacity is determined by the duration of exposure. Once the desired effect is achieved, the glass is thoroughly cleaned to remove any remaining acid and protective material.

This technique offers exceptional design flexibility, ranging from a simple frosted look to intricate patterns and gradients. Acid-etched glass is available in multiple thicknesses, including 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 10mm, and 12mm, with thicker options available for specialized projects.

For custom designs and alternative frosted finishes, Vaughan Glass & Mirror also provides expert sandblasting services. Sandblasting creates a different texture and can be used to produce detailed patterns, logos, and shapes on glass surfaces, offering another creative option for artistic and functional applications.
